— HOW IT WORKS

Pelvis aligned. Baby happier.

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic protocol that addresses sacroiliac and round-ligament tension. Reduces in-utero constraint and helps the body do what it's already designed to do.

We use pregnancy-specific tables (drop-piece accommodation for a growing belly), modified positioning, and gentler force than typical adjustments. Many patients come in for low back pain, sciatica, or breech presentation concerns.

Posture changes start immediately. We address the SI joint and pelvic floor early — before they become a problem at 32 weeks.

— GOOD TO KNOW

The body changes fast. The spine carries the load.

Between 50 and 70% of expectant mothers experience lower back discomfort during pregnancy, and pain often intensifies in the third trimester. You don't have to accept it as part of the process.

At Meridian, we offer tailored chiropractic support during and after pregnancy using specialized techniques designed for each stage. The goal is to manage discomfort and enhance the likelihood of a smooth delivery — supporting you, and your growing family, through the whole season.

Why pregnancy creates spinal stress

Three forces stack up as pregnancy progresses. First, a shifting center of gravity: as the belly grows, the spine compensates, creating an excessive lumbar curve and lower-back stress. Second, an increased lumbar curve: the lower back arches more to balance the growing weight, placing pressure on spinal joints and discs.

Third, pelvic ligament changes: the hormone relaxin loosens ligaments to prepare for delivery, which is essential for birth but also reduces spinal stability along the way. Gentle, stage-appropriate adjustments help the body manage these changes rather than fight them.

Our techniques and why they work

We use specialized adjustment methods adapted for each trimester, including the Webster Technique, which focuses on sacral balance to optimize pelvic alignment and create the best possible environment for baby positioning. Every technique is gentle, regulated, and evidence-based — nothing aggressive, nothing experimental.

The benefits patients notice most: a more comfortable pregnancy with reduced back, hip, and round-ligament pain across all three trimesters; potentially shorter labor, which research links to consistent prenatal chiropractic care; less reliance on pain medication during labor for many patients; and the reassurance that the care is safe for mother and baby from the first trimester through delivery.

You don't have to wait until it hurts

Many patients start care in their first trimester — before pain develops. Starting early lets us address the SI joint and pelvic floor before they become a problem later in pregnancy, and it tends to make the entire experience smoother.

Care is available at both our Jacksonville and Orange Park locations, and we coordinate with your OB and birth team throughout. Carry the joy — let us carry the load.

Care through every trimester — and after

Prenatal chiropractic isn't a single visit; it's support that adapts as your body changes. In the first trimester, posture changes start almost immediately, so we address the SI joint and pelvic floor early rather than waiting for pain to arrive later. Through the second trimester, most patients come in every two to three weeks as the center of gravity shifts and the lumbar curve increases, keeping the pelvis level so the spine isn't forced to compensate.

In the birth-prep weeks, we apply the Webster Technique through 36 to 40 weeks with the goal of a balanced, torsion-free pelvis that makes it easier for baby to engage and for labor to progress. Care doesn't have to stop at delivery, either — gentle chiropractic support can help your body recover and readjust postpartum as posture, carrying, and feeding demands change. Everything is coordinated with your OB and birth team from start to finish.

— COMMON QUESTIONS

Prenatal chiropractic, answered.

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Yes. When performed by a trained provider using pregnancy-specific techniques, chiropractic care is a safe, gentle, drug-free option throughout all three trimesters. We use pregnancy-adapted tables, modified side-lying positioning, and gentler force than a typical adjustment. Every technique we use is gentle, regulated, and evidence-based — nothing aggressive, nothing experimental.
What is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic protocol that focuses on sacral balance and addresses sacroiliac and round-ligament tension. By optimizing pelvic alignment, it reduces in-utero constraint and helps create the best possible environment for the baby to find an ideal position — supporting the body to do what it is already designed to do.
Why does pregnancy create back and spinal pain?
As the belly grows, your center of gravity shifts forward and the lower back arches more to compensate, increasing the lumbar curve and placing pressure on spinal joints and discs. At the same time, the hormone relaxin loosens ligaments to prepare for delivery, which also reduces spinal stability. Between 50 and 70% of expectant mothers experience lower back discomfort, and it often intensifies in the third trimester.
When should I start prenatal chiropractic care?
You don't have to wait until it hurts. Many patients start care in the first trimester — before pain develops — so we can address the SI joint and pelvic floor early rather than after they become a problem at 32 weeks. The earlier you start, the better your entire pregnancy experience tends to be.
Can chiropractic care help with labor and delivery?
A balanced, torsion-free pelvis makes it easier for the baby to engage and easier for labor to progress. Research indicates consistent chiropractic care during pregnancy may help shorten labor duration, and many patients report needing minimal to no pain medication during labor after consistent prenatal care.
What conditions do you help with during pregnancy?
Patients commonly come in for lower back pain, hip pain, sciatica, and round-ligament discomfort, as well as concerns about breech or transverse presentation. For presentation and any higher-risk situations we always coordinate with your OB and stay within our scope of care.
