Exercise Therapy
Corrective exercises that keep your adjustments holding -- and keep you out of our office long-term.
The Part Most Chiropractors Skip
Getting adjusted is step one. Keeping the correction -- that's the game. If the muscles around your spine are weak, imbalanced, or firing in the wrong order, your body pulls right back into the old pattern. The adjustment works. But it doesn't hold. Sound familiar?
Exercise therapy is the difference between short-term relief and long-term results. We design corrective exercise programs specific to your condition and your body. Not a handout of generic stretches. Not a YouTube video. A program built from your exam findings that targets exactly what needs to get stronger, more flexible, or more stable.
Whether you're recovering from a disc herniation, rehabbing after an auto accident on I-95, or trying to keep your back from locking up at your desk in downtown Jacksonville -- exercise therapy is how we make the fix permanent.
Why Exercise Therapy Matters
Targeted to Your Problem
These aren't random gym exercises. Every movement is selected based on your exam findings, your imaging, and your functional limitations. If your L4-L5 disc is the issue, your exercises target the muscles that stabilize that segment.
Prevents Re-Injury
Adjustments fix the alignment. Exercises keep it that way. Without building strength and stability, your body drifts back to old patterns. The exercises are the insurance policy against another flare-up.
Functional Movement Focus
We train movements, not muscles in isolation. Bending, lifting, reaching, rotating -- the things you actually need to do in your life. Your exercise program mirrors the demands your body faces every day.
Progressive Difficulty
We start where you are -- even if that's barely able to get off the floor. Then we build. Week by week, the exercises get harder as your body gets stronger. You'll surprise yourself with what you can do by week 6.
How Exercise Therapy Works at Meridian
Assessment
We evaluate your posture, movement patterns, strength, and flexibility. We find the weak links -- the muscles that aren't doing their job and the compensations your body has built around them.
Custom Program
Based on your assessment and your chiropractic treatment plan, we build an exercise program specific to you. Every exercise has a purpose tied directly to your condition.
In-Office Coaching
We teach you every movement. Form matters. A poorly executed exercise can make things worse. We watch, we correct, and we make sure you're confident before you do it at home.
Progress & Adjust
As you get stronger, the program evolves. We increase difficulty, add new movements, and phase out ones you've mastered. The goal is a body that doesn't need us anymore.
Frequently Asked Questions
Physical therapy is a separate discipline with its own approach. Our exercise therapy is specifically designed to complement chiropractic care -- it targets the muscle imbalances and instabilities that contribute to the spinal and joint issues we're treating. We do it in-house, integrated with your adjustments, so everything works together.
We'll give you a home exercise program -- usually 3 to 4 movements that take 10 to 15 minutes. These are the non-negotiable ones that keep your progress moving between visits. We teach you exactly how to do them and check your form at every visit.
Yes, with the right exercises. We start with pain-free ranges of motion and gentle stabilization. Movement is medicine when it's the right movement at the right intensity. Lying still and hoping pain goes away usually makes things worse.
Most patients notice improved stability and reduced pain frequency within 2 to 4 weeks of consistent exercise. Full functional recovery depends on the condition, but we measure progress at every visit so you always know where you stand.
